COL LOPE C DAGOY is indeed the best choice of President Duterte to be the new PSG Commander. A proud member of the Hinirang Class of 1987 in the Philippine Military Academy, he is a great example of an achiever based from his laudable credentials.
He was born sixth among his nine siblings to parents Desiderio Dagoy (deceased) and Lourdes Cellona Dagoy in Glan, Sarangani where he was also raised as a child. He finished his elementary and secondary education at Notre Dame of Glan. Before he was accepted as a cadet in Philippine Military Academy in 1983, he finished a vocational course in Automotive in 1982.
After graduation, young Dagoy, as 2nd Lt of the Philippine Army (PA), was then assigned to lead a platoon of soldiers pursuing a group of communist insurgents in Leyte. He went on to become a Company Commander of “C” Company 43rd Infantry Battalion, 8th Infantry Division, Philippine Army in Eastern Samar. Following his assignment, he became the Commander of Field Station 790, 7th Intelligence & Security Unit, Intelligence & Security Group in Region 8.
After which, he was assigned as Commander of 19th Infantry Battalion, 8th Infantry Division in Leyte, which was adjudged as Best Battalion for two consecutive years under his watch. This declaration is a proof that he was not just an ordinary military man. His perseverance and dedication in public service reflected on his outputs as the Commander. Maybe, this is the reason why he was sent to Haiti as Commander of 10th Philippine Contingent to UN under the Stabilization Mission (MINUSTAH). He also became the Commander of 85th Infantry Division, 2nd Infantry Division in Masbate, and Commander of three Infantry Brigades namely: 104th in Basilan, 403rd in Bukidnon, and 101st in Zamboanga del Norte.
He was also the Chief of Unified Command Staff, Eastern Mindanao Command in Davao City before he was designated as the Senior Military Assistant to President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.
But his learnings in the military did not make him think to settle for what skills and knowledge his previous assignments have allowed him to have. He believed that learning shall never stop because he knows there’s always something unknown to him. To broaden his knowledge more, he took military specialization in Basic Airborne and Special Forces Operations at Special Forces School in 1987 and 1988, respectively; Basic Military Intelligence Officer Course in 1990 at Intelligence Security Group, PA; Infantry Officer Basic and Advance Courses at Combat Arms School, Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC); Command & General Staff Course in 2004 (with Honors; Best in Strategy, Warfare, and Conflict Studies) at Command & General Staff College, TRADOC; and Overseas Joint Warfare Course in 2005 at Australian Defense Force, Australia.
He also took specialization and career courses namely: MA in Public Administration at Center for Graduate Studies in National College of Business & Arts, Executive Course in National Security in 2007 at National Defense College of the Philippines (NDCP), Strategic Intelligence Course in 2009 at Strategic Intelligence Training School (SITS) in Intelligence Service Armed Forces of the Philippines (ISAFP), and Master in National Security Administration at the National College of the Philippines in 2013.
He received numerous military and civilian awards and commendations for his notable performance in service in recognition of his exemplary performance of his duty as a public servant. These include numerous Letters of Commendation, Certificates of Achievement/Merit, several Commendation Medals, Military Merit Medals, Presidential Unit Citation Badges; Bronze Cross Medals, Gawad sa Kaunlaran, United Nations Medal, several Command Plaques, and Distinguish Service Star. He was also a recipient of the Presidential Lingkod Bayan Award in 2010 by the Civil Service Commission, The Outstanding Pinoy Soldier (TOPS) Award in 2009 by Metrobank Foundation and the Rotary Club of Makati Metro, and The Award for Counting Excellence and Service (ACES) in 2004 by Metrobank Foundation.
We warmheartedly welcome our new PSG Group Commander COL LOPE C DAGOY!
