Overall security set for 31st ASEAN Summit

More than 15,000 security personnel gathered at Quirino Grandstand yesterday, 05 November 2017 for the send-off ceremony prior to their deployment for the 31st ASEAN Summit.

They are all soldiers and police with personnel from Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), and Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) who are part of the 57,000-personnel force deployed for the safety and security during the conduct of said international event.

The Presidential Security Group assigned on the security of all attending heads of state/government as well as other civilian agencies such as Department of Health (DOH), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), and Association of Southeast Asian Nations-National Coordinating Council (ASEAN-NOC) were also present.

PSG Commander BGEN LOPE C DAGOY said, “The security of the leaders is our top priority, however, we cannot do it without the help of other units and stakeholders, that is why we are truly grateful to all the security units gathered here today.”

All personnel were deployed to their respective areas of responsibility after the ceremony. They will remain in their posts until the last day of the Summit on 15 November 2017.
