Few days before Christmas, tropical depression Urduja with an international name Kai-tak hit the country on 17 December 2017 and hardly devastated some provinces including Biliran in Visayas.
President Rodrigo Roa Duterte personally visited the areas badly affected by Urduja on Monday, 18 December 2017.
He was joined by Cabinet members that included Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade, Health Secretary Francisco Duque II, Interior and Local Government Undersecretary Eduardo Año, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, and Chief of Staff GEN REY LEONARDO GUERRERO AFP.
President Duterte pledged to expedite the delivery of relief goods after asking for the exact needs of the LGU. He also ordered DPWH to finish repairing damaged bridges in Naval in less than a month.
“He, of course, condoled with the victims of Urduja and pledged that government will do everything it can to help Biliran rise again,” Spokesperson Roque said.
