PSG encounters NPA at Arakan North Cotabato

Members of the Presidential Security Group encountered undetermined number of NPAs in Arakan, North Cotabato early this morning, July 19, 2017.

Four (4) troops of PSG were wounded in the said encounter at Barangay Katipunan, Arakan, North Cotabato between 5:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m.

The incident happened early in the morning today when armed men wearing military uniforms flagged down two (2) SUVs containing ten (10) PSG troopers. Those four (4) wounded are: SSg Gerry N Tosar PA, Cpl Rodel A Ledesma PA, Cpl Ayam P Alia PA, and SSg Arniel L Matunhay PA.

“These four (4) PSG troopers were already airlifted to Davao City, two (2) were brought to Naval Station Hospital at Eastern Mindanao Command Headquarters in Camp Panacan. The other two (2) are being treated at Southern Philippines Medical Center in Davao City. All of them are in good condition,” PSG Commander BGEN LOPE C DAGOY assured.

The two-car convoy was heading to Cagayan de Oro City from Davao City when they were stopped by NPA members who disguised themselves as members of the military.

PSG troopers sensed it was a fake military checkpoint, resulting to the armed encounter that ensued for several minutes.

“It’s not a presidential convoy. It’s an ordinary admin movement going to Cagayan de Oro City, to coordinate for some admin matters for the Command,” PSG Spokesperson LTC MICHAEL T AQUINO clarified.
