Brunei Darussalam Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah arrived at Balagbag Ramp in Ninoy Aquino International Airport earlier today for the ASEAN Summit 2017.
Sultan Bolkiah, who is one of the longest-reigning absolute monarchs in the world, is the first head of state and country leader to arrive in the country for the Summit. It is his first visit in the country during President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s term. He was welcomed by Department of Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III.
Brunei Darussalam is one of the ASEAN country members since January 08, 1984. Majority of the populace (78%) are Muslims, making it the first and only country in Southeast Asia to implement Islamic Sharia Law.
The Presidential Security Group, along with Brunei Darussalam’s counterpart, will be in charge for Sultan Bolkiah’s security and safety during his stay in the Philippines.
