PRRD’s close-in security head takes over PSG leadership

COL JESUS P DURANTE III INF (GSC) PA, Commanding Officer of the Presidential Escorts, now takes responsibility as the new Commander of Presidential Security Group (PSG) today, 25 February 2020, at Malacañang Park, Manila.

The Change of Command Ceremony will be presided by no less than the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.

A seasoned scout ranger who successfully conquered the toughest combats in his field assignments, COL DURANTE was the commanding officer of the 2nd Scout Ranger Battalion of the First Scout Ranger Regiment of the Philippine Army prior to his assignment last 2016 as head of Presidential Escorts—an organic unit of PSG tasked as close-in security force for the President, his family, visiting heads of state/government, and other foreign dignitaries.

Under his leadership as head of President Duterte’s close-in security, he meticulously led his troops to succeed in being the first layer of security for all presidential engagements that include some of the most remarkable points in history such as the hosting of our country for the 30th and 31st ASEAN Summit and its 50th year anniversary celebration last 2017, SEA Games 2019, meetings of PRRD and foreign leaders held here and abroad, and even the President’s visits in Marawi City in the midst of war last 2017. Also notable of his deeds is his creation of the Special Task Action Group Presidential Escorts (STAG PE), especially dedicated in protecting the first family.

He is a proud member of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Tanglaw-Diwa Class of 1992 and currently holds a master’s degree in Defense Analysis from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. He also served for the United Nations Mission in Sudan last 2007 as a military observer.

A well-decorated Army officer with 13 gold cross medals for gallantry in action among many others, this man has proven his skills in the military service, thereby making him worthy of the position to lead one of the country’s elite military units.

On a lighter note, he is also an adventurous man who enjoys a wide array of interests such as skydiving, biking, rifle and pistol shooting, golf, scuba diving, and underwater photography. All of these were equally attended to during his free time from duty, which he refers to as his best ways to take a break from the challenging and exceptional task that his sworn duty requires him.

COL DURANTE is happily married to his lovely wife Helen and a devoted father to his kids Lorenz Miguel, Miakela, and Micolo Troy.

The PSG troopers are excited to greet you from this day forward as our Group Commander. Congratulations COL DURANTE!
