Despite all the criticisms thrown against his distinct way of leadership, Davao City Mayor turned President of the Republic of the Philippines Rodrigo Roa Duterte is now the most influential person in the world according to Time Magazine.
Time Magazine started its online poll last March 24, 2017 and ended yesterday hailing President Duterte as the most influential. The long list included personalities of most influential people around the globe who are celebrities, artists, politicians, lawmakers, scientists, and leaders of technology and business.
Some of them have been consistently listed over the years, yet a Filipino leader, known for his kamay-na-bakal governance, for the first time, stands as the most influential in the world.
Following President Duterte are: Canadian President Justine Trudeau who was dubbed as real-life Prince Charming during the APEC Summit 2016; Roman Catholic most loved religious leader Pope Francis; one of the world’s richests Bill Gates of Microsoft; Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg who was once had his research paper on experimental social media rejected; and Russian President Vladimir Putin whom PRRD admires.
Also included in the list were US President Donald Trump as well as Hollywood personalities Rihanna, John Legend, and Emma Stone.
President Duterte, Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India, President Xi Jinping of China, and India-born Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella were the only Asians who made it to the list of nominees.
Just as when Filipinos thought hope is over, here comes a President who firmly vows to bring change for a better Philippines. This great milestone is not only for the President but also a sweet triumph for all the Filipinos around the world—a proof that our government’s effort to earn dignity and respect for every Filipino is being recognized internationally.
Our sincerest congratulations to President Rodrigo Roa Duterte. Way to go, Philippines!
